Caladrain....

When, as a young boy, Caladrian was sent away from his family he had never before left Leuthilspar. His father, a politician in the Queen's court, had agreed to send his son to Waterdeep as an apprentice under his father's friend, a member of the Waterdeep city council. After he arrived in Waterdeep Caladrian found that the Councilman was a busy man and had little time for the young elf. Other than the few minor duties he was assigned seemingly out of obligation, Caladrian had little to do with his time beyond observing the council and it's daily workings. He required much more stimulation so he eventually convinced the Councilman to allow him to accompany the council's ambassador as he traversed the city to visit the many consular offices of Toril's foreign governments. When Caladrian became bored with treaty discussions his keen mind found it easy to create distractions to slip away. Often he interjected a controversial topic into the negotiations, putting the ambassador on the defensive, other times he would remove documents from the ambassador's packs and be sent to retrieve copies of them. Each day he found new ways to keep far away from politics and politicians.

Caladrian took full advantage of this new freedom and roamed the great city each day after he escaped his duties. He explored widely but each day before the cries of the night watch signaled the coming dusk he was drawn to the high mysterious towers of the wizards guild. He took to sitting at the foot of it's walls near the grand entrance and watching the guild members come and go with the night's business. The wizards eventually came to know the the boy and would often stop to chat with him about Evermeet and the workings of the Queen's court. One guild member, an elven master who never had the pleasure to visit Evermeet, particularly enjoyed talking with young Caladrian about the elven homeland. He had also instantly recognized Caladrian's natural intellect and slowly gaged the boy's interest in becoming his pupil. He convinced the boy that he was squandering his gifts in politics and that he should study the magical arts as his apprentice. Caladrian knew his family would never accept this but the mystery and power of magic was too great. After much deliberation he finally made the decision to devote his life to study and master the mysteries of Magic.

Since entering into his studies of the magical arts Caladrian has not returned to Evermeet. He knows his family would not accept his decision. Even though leaving his family and the elven homeland behind has been the most difficult decision of his life, his love of magic and his natural talent help him forget his loss.

Upon completing his apprenticeship Caladrian's master instructed the boy to leave behind the library and laboratories of the guild and venture force to satisfy the natural cravings young elves have to explore Toril. Some practical experience in the world would serve him well as he had spent nearly his entire life in his parents house and his master's laboratory.

Caladrian is of average height and weight for an elf, though he is possibly more robust than a typical Magic User. He was not forced into the magical arts out of an inability to excel at other disciplines, he chose magic because of his insatiable desire for knowledge and the ease at which he consumed his studies. His garb is a typical wizard's wardrobe--simple but quality garments under a long robe. When you look into Caladrian's eyes you can see that he has without a doubt been humbled by his time as an apprentice, but a childhood spent in the Queen's court has taught him to be self assured and to speak to people directly and with purpose. His love of his craft and his drive to master it has forced him to become a consummate professional, though he can be a bit silly in times of leisure and of great danger. The latter is no doubt a defense mechanism, but the distraction from dire reality allows him to better assess the situation at hand.
